Reinventing Traditional Embroidery Techniques

Reinventing Traditional Embroidery Techniques

Recently American Stitched came up with a way to “reinvent” a traditional embroidery technique and had to share with our customers! A longtime customer of ours, who likes to have gifts personalized with embroidery and monograms for friends and family, came to us wanting to have a blanket monogramed for his blind mother in law, who recently lost her husband of many years. While traditional embroidery is slightly raised on completely flat solid fabric, the blanket he brought us was soft. From experience we knew that embroidering on soft fabric like the blanket that her initials would blend in with the surrounding fluffy fabric, and we wanted to make sure his gift was perfect.

After some thought and test stitching we came up with the idea to use braille lettering with puffy foam backing to allow her to be able to read the monogram easily. This puffy foam is traditionally used for embroidery on hats to make the embroidered logo or text raised and stand out. After speaking with our customer about this idea he was immediately excited and asked us to add the heart and infinity symbol that you see in the picture. On one side of the infinity symbol is his mother in laws initials embroidered in braille with puffy foam application and on the other side is her late husband’s initials embroidered with the puffy foam application. The blanket turned out beautifully. This is just one example of how American Stitched can use embroidery to create beautiful completely personalized monogram gifts that loved ones are able to use and cherish for many years.
